We spend a very nice
afternoon, much to our pleasure a lot of students (current and former) showed
up and stayed for gossip and drinks after the representations.
Stefan Ganscha exemplified
the CBB studies with his own career. He is very content and praised the good
conditions for students at the ETH.
Dr. Christian Ahrens from
Agroscope talked about the research going on there and mentioned two vacant PhD
positions.
Prof. Gaston Gonnet
explained why he thinks it is so rewarding to work in bioinformatics.
Furthermore he adivsed that everyone should do as a job what he or she loves to
do, because one spends so much time at work.

What is it all about?
The Master's programme in Computational Biology & Bioinformatics is a multi-university partnership and a truly interdisciplinary programme.The programme is a collaboration between the Institutes of Molecular Life Sciences, Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies, and the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Zurich (UZH) and the Departments of Computer Science, Biology, Biosystems Science and Engineering, and Mechanical and Process Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH).
The goal of the programme is to provide students with a broad education in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics based on strong foundations in Computer Science, Biology and Mathematics.
The curriculum includes practical experiences with experimental biology and computer science as cooperation and communication are key to success in this highly interdisciplinary field.This interdisciplinary character will also be reflected in the policy of admitting applicants holding Bachelor degrees in a wide range of disciplines
CBB students obtain a Joint-Degree from UZH and ETH.
